1. Who we are
TakeMeWhere (takemewhere.ae) is a guide to places worth visiting across the United Arab Emirates. If you have any question about your data, write to us at takemewhere.guide@gmail.com.
2. What we collect
You can browse the whole site without an account. We only collect:
- Your account, if you create one: your email address and, if you sign in with Google, the name and profile picture Google shares with us. Passwords are stored encrypted by our sign-in provider; we never see them.
- Places you save: which places you bookmarked and when, so your Saved list works on any device.
- Suggestions you send through “Know a spot?”: the place, what you wrote about it and, only if you add them, your name and email. We use your email only to thank you or ask about your tip.
- How the site is used, through the two tools in section 4.
We don't sell your data, and we don't show ads.
3. Why we use it
- To sign you in and keep your saved places.
- To review the places you suggest.
- To see which pages and places people find useful, and fix what doesn't work.
- To keep the site safe, for example by limiting how many suggestions can be sent at once.
4. Visit statistics and cookies
- Umami, which we run on our own server, counts page visits and clicks on buttons like “Get directions”. It doesn't use cookies and doesn't store your IP address, so it can't tell who you are.
- Microsoft Clarity shows us heatmaps and replays of how pages are scrolled and tapped, so we can make them easier to use. It uses cookies and is run by Microsoft under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. It is turned off on sign-in and admin pages, and it is designed to hide what you type into forms.
- Sign-in cookies keep you signed in. They are only set when you sign in.
- Google Maps: place pages show a map from Google, which may set its own cookies under Google's Privacy Policy.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works without them, except signing in.
5. Who helps us run the site
A few services store or process data for us, only to run TakeMeWhere:
- Supabase: our database and sign-in (accounts, saved places and suggestions), hosted in Singapore.
- Google: “Continue with Google” sign-in and the maps on place pages.
- Cloudinary: stores and resizes the photos of places.
- Microsoft Clarity: the heatmaps and replays in section 4.
Some of these services are outside the UAE, so your data may be stored or processed abroad.
6. How long we keep it
- Your account and saved places: until you ask us to delete your account.
- Suggestions: as long as we need them to review the place. Ask us and we'll delete yours.
- Visit statistics are kept as totals and can't be traced back to you.
7. Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, including deleting your account and all your saved places. Email takemewhere.guide@gmail.com from the address on your account, and we'll reply within 30 days.
8. Children
TakeMeWhere is meant for adults planning outings. Accounts are not for children under 13.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change how we use data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. See also our Terms of use.
