Flamingos in the mangroves, horse rides on the beach and a family-run Greek kitchen: the Ajman most people miss.
Ajman is usually a drive-through on the way somewhere else. It shouldn't be. Its northern edge, Al Zorah, is one of the calmest corners of the coast.
Into the mangroves
Al Zorah Natural Reserve is a protected lagoon where flamingos, herons and egrets gather among the mangroves. Walk or cycle the track, or bring binoculars.
The best way in is by kayak. Quest for Adventure runs guided tours through the channels; it's beginner-friendly, and evening tours stay pleasant even in summer.
Golden hour on horseback
Stalliono runs guided rides along Al Zorah beach at sunrise and sunset, on calm, well-kept horses. No experience needed.
Prefer to stay on the sand? Ajman Secret Beach is a calm, uncrowded stretch that's loved for sunsets, fishing and BBQs. There are no lights, so go by day or at sunset.
Old Ajman at dusk
The Heritage District surrounds the 18th-century fort that houses Ajman Museum. Wander coral-stone houses and perfume shops while the lanterns come on.
Dinner
Finish at The Greek Boys, a family-owned Greek kitchen where the chef welcomes you himself. Gyros, souvlaki and bougatsa, in famously generous portions.
